Marcie, a finalist in the prestigious Miss Great Britain pageant, is using this platform to shed light on the challenges faced by individuals in the care system and to offer support to those going through similar circumstances. Her story begins at the tender age of three when she entered the care system, a result of the domestic abuse her family endured at the hands of her biological father, who later met a tragic end.
"Growing up in care was an incredibly tough journey," Marcie shares. "I moved between foster homes 13 times, but I want to show that your childhood experiences don't determine your future." Her words are a beacon of hope for many.
At the age of ten, Marcie returned home to her mother and adopted father, and since then, she has dedicated her life to supporting children facing similar struggles. Working with Action For Children, a charity committed to helping children in poverty and abuse, Marcie has seen firsthand the impact of her work.
"Everything I've been through has shaped me into the person I am today, and I wouldn't change a single thing," she says with conviction.
As an estates manager and the current Miss York 2025, Marcie's campaigning has brought attention to the "additional barriers" faced by individuals leaving the care system. She emphasizes the need for a conversation about the support required to ensure these individuals can thrive in life.
"Too often, people in care are defined by their circumstances, which limits their potential and keeps them trapped. It's time to break free from these constraints," she asserts.
If Marcie wins the national title, she plans to continue her advocacy work, helping others heal from their trauma and succeed. "I've healed from my experiences, and now it's my turn to pay it forward," she concludes.
The 2025 Miss Great Britain final, marking the pageant's 80th anniversary, will take place in Leicester, and Marcie's story will undoubtedly be a highlight. Her journey is a testament to the power of resilience and the ability to turn adversity into a force for good.
