Amazon Web Services (AWS) leads the global cloud market, followed closely by Microsoft's Azure and Google Cloud. The EU's move comes at a time of tension with U.S. President Donald Trump, who has sided with American tech giants against EU regulations. This has raised concerns that the EU might back down from its tough stance on Big Tech.
"We must ensure that the DMA's rules are up-to-date to keep pace with the rapidly evolving cloud sector," EU antitrust chief Teresa Ribera stated. While Microsoft has expressed its willingness to cooperate, AWS has a different perspective. An AWS spokesperson warned, "Designating cloud providers as gatekeepers could hinder innovation and increase costs for European businesses."
